Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer names David de Gea his best player against Leicester
According to the club’s official site, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that David de Gea was the standout player in the club’s 4-2 defeat to Leicester City.
The Red Devils took the lead through Mason Greenwood but Leicester came back strong. The home side drew level thanks to Youri Tielemans before Caglar Soyuncu gave them the lead in the 78th minute.
The Foes could have taken the lead much sooner had it not been for De Gea. The Spaniard looks back to his best and made excellent saves from Tielemans and Patson Daka. He also made a fine save with his feet before Leicester eventually scored their second.
The performance was not lost on Solskajer. He went on to namedrop the veteran goalkeeper as the best player on his side in a losing performance.
“It says everything when David [De Gea] was our best player.”
Not many players in goal get credit after conceding four goals. While De Gea’s name being dropped is a testament to his ability, it also shows his defence in poor light. The players inf front of him did De Gea little favours on the night.
Ole in La La land?
Solskjaer also went on to admit that it was his call to play skipper Harry Maguire on the night. The Englishman had not seen action since going off injured against Aston Villa earlier in the season.
The Norwegian goes on to add that the defender got better as the game wore on. An argument that will take some beating given the roles Maguire played in Leicester’s goals in the second half.
“Maybe he needed a first half to get going. He got better as the game got on.”
Maguire did not react quickly to Soyuncu’s goal and also jumped away from Jamie Vardy giving him space to get off the strike for Leicester’s third. More so, the 28-year-old was also caught ball watching as Patson Daka bundled in the Foxes fourth on the night. Clearly, Solskajer was watching some other game

Solskjaer’s side failed to show heart not hunger and looked tactically inept. The Norwegian has to take the blame for not changing his system or tweaking his tactics. With Liverpool up next, the clock might be ticking for the Norwegian at Old Trafford.
