Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expresses his views on the availability of Fred and Edinson Cavani for the Leicester City and Atalanta fixtures
In the pre-match conference for the Leicester City fixture (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ole Gunnar Solksjaer spoke about Fred and Edinson Cavani and their availability for Manchester United.
The Red Devils have had to face a rocky start to the campaign. Despite that, they are currently situated in 4th position in the Premier League table and are only 2 points behind league leaders Chelsea. The manager spoke up about his south-American duo ahead of the next match and the kind of complex situation that they have had to face Man Utd.
Fred has had to endure a tough time in recent seasons and has also been at the centre of a lot of criticism from the fans. He even played a grave part in helping Everton secure their equalizer in the 1-1 draw against the Toffees in their last Premier League fixture. The Manchester United midfielder played an important role in Brazil as he provided an assist in Brazil’s 4-1 victory against Uruguay.
Solskjaer talked about The Brazilian’s performance for his national side and highlighted that it would do a world of good for his confidence:
Fred played really well, played a great pass in for Neymar, so he would have got lots of confidence from again showing how good a player he is.
Edinson Cavani also got some minutes under his belt as the veteran striker was forced to miss out on action due to injuries earlier on in the season. The 34-year-old Uruguayan has been an instrumental part of the Red Devils attacking setup ever since his arrival at the club and the manager has been really mindful of his contributions from time to time.
Ole spoke up on the former PSG striker ahead of the game as he insisted that getting some minutes under his belt was a crucial thing for him:
“Edinson needed minutes. He lost quite a few weeks at the start of the season and that was important for him, so we should be able to deal without them for this game and they should be back in midweek again.”
The South-American duo should be available midweek as the Red Devils will have to make do without them against the Foxes in their upcoming PL fixture. The Old Trafford outfit will be hungry to get going with another victory on the board. Despite all the criticism received from time to time, the Norwegian manager has stuck to Fred in his midfield.
