Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has addressed the future of Jesse Lingard amidst contract issues

Speaking in the pre-match press conference (h/t The Metro), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has explained that he would like Jesse Lingard to sign a new Manchester United contract amidst transfer links.

The 28-year-old has less than 12 months on his current deal and is said to have previously rejected a contract extension by the Red Devils. Lingard spent last the second half of last season on loan to West Ham but stayed at Old Trafford this summer.

The Englishman has not started a single league encounter despite proving crucial in games against West Ham United and Villarreal. There has been interest from other clubs to procure a move for the winger, with Newcastle United, Barcelona, and AC Milan all linked with the player.

‘Jesse’s had a good start to the season, of course, he’s come on and scored a few goals for us that’s been very important for us.

‘We want to prolong his contract, we see him as an important player for us, it’s up to him maybe up to me to give him more playing time because he deserves to. Hopefully, we can get a deal sorted for Jesse because we really rate him.’

The Manchester-based club have a plethora of attackers in their squad, and it remains to be seen whether Lingard will get the game-time he desires.

Regardless, with more than 6 months left until he becomes a free agent, a lot could change, especially if United suffer any injuries in their frontline.
