Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes reveals he snubbed Manchester United for London
Speaking in an interview with TalkSPORT (h/t The Boot Room), defender Gabriel Magalhaes revealed that he rejected an approach from Manchester United in favour of joining Arsenal last year.
Gabriel joined the Gunners from LOSC Lille last year during the closing stages of the summer transfer window. As it turns out, the defender could have joined the Red Devils as there was interest from both Manchester United as well as Everton.
The defender has now himself claimed that there was interest from Manchester United. However, he snubbed the other clubs and was swayed towards joining Arsenal partly because of the messages sent by their fans.
“I’d always dreamt of playing in the Premier League and everyone knows Arsenal as one of the top clubs in the world. It’s true that Manchester United were also interested, but I was always focused on joining Arsenal. The fans sent some messages in the build-up and that was very important in my decision.”
Gabriel happy with his choice
Despite Mikel Arteta’s side struggling massively domestically, Gabriel believes he made the right choice to join the Gunners.
“Having been here for some time now, I am certain I made the right choice. I am very happy here, I’ve made some fantastic friendships and I hope we can win some trophies.”
Perhaps it was the best move for all parties. The Gunners can afford to start the Brazilian defender whenever he is available – something which may not have been possible at Old Trafford.
