Manchester United can trump Arsenal for Gabriel Magalhaes if they offer better wages

According to Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United can win the race for Gabriel Magalhaes if they are willing to improve their offer for the defender.

The 22-year-old looked to be on his way to Arsenal this summer. United have, however, stepped in with a last-minute offer to hijack the deal.

The Brazilian is now considering his options. The Lille star has also garnered attention from Italian giants Napoli. According to the report, Arsenal look set to win the race unless United improve their offer.

While our backline has shown great improvement during the 2019/20 campaign, we have been far from solid.

Victor Lindelof remains unconvincing while Eric Bailly is consistently injured. Despite the abilities of Harry Maguire, his lack of speed and tendency to be slow on the turn have proven to be key weaknesses.

Bringing in a new defender with pace and ability on the ball will add more balance and dimension to our backline. Gabriel not only satisfies these conditions but is also a left-footed player. Ole Gunnar Solskajer is a fan of the player and will be keen to trump the Gunners to his signature.(h/t Daily Record)

However, time is running out for Ed Woodward and co. for making their move. Moreover, losing him to a direct rival like Arsenal could be counter-productive.

Gabriel has been a key player for Les Dogues as they finished fourth in Ligue 1. He made 34 appearances this season, scoring one goal. Unfortunately, they could only qualify for the Europa League.

With our rivals making a number of signings, United cannot afford to stay still.
