Teddy Sheringham believes Manchester United ace Anthony Martial is not loved at the club
Speaking to Daily Mail, Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham has claimed that he feels Anthony Martial is not appreciated at the club.
There has been a lot of speculation around the future of the 25-year-old centre-forward since the start of the season. Although Martial enjoyed a fantastic 2019/20 season, he failed to produce the same performances last time around.
While he would have liked to start the current season with a fresh beginning, competition is rife at Old Trafford. The additions of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo in the frontline have only reduced the game-time of the French international, which has resulted in the striker starting only 2 games for the club.
Although he did seem off the paces against Southampton last month, it was his first competitive start after coming back from injury. However, his most recent start was against West Ham United in the EFL Cup, and Martial failed to conjure a goal as the Red Devils were kicked out of the competition in the third round itself.
However, club legend Teddy Sheringham believes otherwise. The former United centre-forward feels the Frenchman is not loved at the club and is, thus, failing to perform. Sheringham told Daily Mail:
‘If you’re not feeling loved and appreciated, if you feel you have one chance to do well in the Carabao Cup, and if you don’t, you’re not going to get anywhere near the Premier League games, it does put pressure on you.
‘When you are loved by a manager, you have that feeling. Martial obviously isn’t getting that at the moment because there are other players at the club in front of him, and you feel like you have to snatch chances when you can.’

The Old Trafford outfit are also said to be willing to let go of the 25-year-old in January itself if they do receive a suitable offer, according to Eurosport (h/t Daily Star). Thus, with chances running out for Martial, it remains to be seen where his future lies beyond this season.
