Paul Robinson tips Manchester United to play Dean Henderson in goal ahead of David de Gea
According to an interview done on Football Insider (h/t TEAM Talk), ex-Tottenham star Paul Robinson has tipped Manchester United to ‘axe’ David de Gea in favour of Dean Henderson.
Henderson, who managed 26 appearances across all competitions last season, featured primarily in cup competitions as the Englishman only racked up 13 Premier League appearances. The 24-year-old was supposed to be a part of United’s squad for the start of the season, however, the goalkeeper contracted Covid-19 earlier this summer.
The Englishman also had to withdraw from the England squad at the Euros after he suffered a hip injury. However, his performances have done enough to convince ex-Tottenham goalkeeper Paul Robinson of his abilities.
The former England goalkeeper talked about Henderson’s situation on Football Insider (h/t TEAM Talk) and how he expects him to start ahead of David de Gea once he is back to full fitness. He said:
“I think when he [Henderson] comes back in, he plays. He did well when he came in at the end of last season but was really unlucky with the injury at the Euros”.
Robinson also explained how Henderson did not make a mistake last season, courtesy of which he deserves to be ‘United’s No 1’.
“Now he’s got a situation with Covid, so wasn’t available for the first game of the season. He didn’t put a foot wrong last season when he was given the gloves by Ole”.
Henderson had an impressive 2019/20 season on loan to Sheffield United, as he made 36 appearances for the club and managed 13 clean sheets in the process. The Englishman also helped the Blades secure a 9th place finish that year.

To that end, Solskjaer kept the 24-year-old at the club last year while he was also tipped to be the first-choice goalkeeper at the start of this season, but he was unfortunately sidelined.
While Henderson might end up starting for the club once he is back to match fitness, only time will tell what it means for David de Gea at Manchester United.
