Tom Heaton injury could affect Dean Henderson Manchester United exit
Manchester United shot-stopper Tom Heaton has picked up an injury, which could affect the future of Dean Henderson at the club, according to the Manchester Evening News.
The former Aston Villa and Burnley goalkeeper picked up a calf knock in training ahead of our opening game against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League.
As a result, the English national is expected to be on the sidelines for a few weeks. To that end, with the 37-year-old out of action for a while, it remains to be seen what the Old Trafford side will decide to do with the former Nottingham Forest loanee.
Henderson spent the 2022/23 term on a temporary move at the Tricky Trees. In the ongoing transfer window, the 26-year-old is expected to rejoin the West Bridgford-based club. The Red Devils are in talks over a loan move with an obligation to buy.
However, the England international could be the number two at the club with Heaton out of action. Andre Onana, who was signed from Inter Milan this summer, seems to be Erik ten Hag’s preferred option in between the sticks.
Henderson has showcased his ire in the past after not being made the first choice at United. In the 2020/21 term, the shot-stopper shared minutes with David de Gea in between the sticks. However, in the subsequent season, the Spaniard was ahead of the English national in the pecking order.
In the previous campaign, Henderson was a key player for Forest. Steve Cooper relied heavily on him and the goalkeeper put in some impressive displays. However, an injury in January 2023 hampered the English national’s stint in West Bridgford.
Fores have recently signed Matt Turner from Arsenal this summer. Therefore, it will be interesting to see whether the Tricky Trees will opt to get a hold of Henderson’s signature as well.
