Paul Pogba Club Career

Pogba enjoyed spells at a number of clubs in France at the youth level. The 28-year-old spent time at Roissy-en-Brie, US Torcy and Le Havre before moving to Manchester United in 2009.

Le Havre were unhappy with the player’s move and accused United of tapping up the player. The Red Devils were eventually cleared by FIFA and the move was allowed to go through. Despite having the option to appeal, Le Havre confirmed that the club had reached an agreement with United for the transfer of Pogba. The terms of the agreement were kept confidential.

He originally spent time with United’s Under-18 side before being promoted to the senior team in 2011. Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed the player would be handed opportunities in the 2011/12 season. Pogba was, however, unwilling to stick around and left the club for Juventus in 2012, having made just three appearances. Ferguson was livid at the player’s decision and accused him of lacking respect.

The Frenchman went on to develop into a genuinely world-class player at Juventus, leading the Italians to numerous pieces of silverware. He eventually returned to United to much fanfare in 2016 for a club-record fee.

Pogba initially enjoyed an excellent season and helped United win the Carabao Cup and the Europa League in 2017. However, he failed to build upon that success and has instead proven to be a Jekyll and Hyde kind of player.

He appears to have finally turned a corner of late and has performed more often than not. With his contract winding down, it remains to be seen if he will bid adieu to Old Trafford for a second time, once again for free.

Pogba returned to United in 2016.

Paul Pogba International Career

If Pogba is inconsistent at club level, he is anything but when donning a France jersey. He won the Golden Ball as France triumphed in the 2013 FIFA Under-20 World Cup. The Frenchman also won the prestigious Golden Boy award that year.

He followed it up with the FIFA World Cup best young player award in 2014 while also clinching the Bravo award the same year.

Pogba also played a starring role in Les Bleus 2018 FIFA World Cup win, scoring in the final against Croatia. He has more often than not turned up the style in a Blue shirt and was amongst their best performers during the 2020 European Championships.
