Erik ten Hag hints at Dean Henderson staying at Manchester United this summer
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has hinted at Dean Henderson staying at the club in the ongoing transfer window despite links to an exit.
The England international has been subject to interest from Nottingham Forest. To that end, the Red Devils have already held talks with the Tricky Trees regarding the shot-stopper’s departure.
However, the West Bridgford-based club are not sure about making a permanent move for the promising goalkeeper. As things stand, the 26-year-old is recovering from a calf injury.
At the moment, Tom Heaton is also out of action for Man United. The 37-year-old is expected to be on the sidelines for the rest of August. Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag admitted that Henderson was in his plans for now.
“He was always in my mind. So I think we have a strong keeper group with Onana, Henderson, Heaton.”
The English national made his way through the youth ranks at the Old Trafford side. After impressing on loan at Sheffield United, the shot-stopper was handed opportunities in the first team at the Red Devils.
In the 2020/21 term, Henderson shared minutes with De Gea. However, the goalkeeper was unable to keep up with the Spaniard and the former Atletico Madrid star regained his place in the team.
Last season, the English national played at Forest on a temporary move. The shot-stopper was a key player for Steve Cooper’s team. Unfortunately, he picked up an injury in January and missed the rest of the campaign.
At United, Andre Onana and Heaton heavily featured during the pre-season. The Cameroonian was signed from Inter Milan in the ongoing transfer window. It looks like the 27-year-old will be Ten Hag’s first choice in between the sticks.
