Transfer News: Manchester United close to double swoop for La Liga duo
According to transfer news from Daily Mail, Manchester United are close to a double swoop for Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier. The duo from La Liga are expected to strengthen United for the season, with deals for them in the works.
There’s some good sense of optimism at Manchester United this season. The signings of Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho are done and close to being done. Now, the club are looking to strengthen their backline, which has been their Achilles heel for a couple of seasons now.
Varane and Trippier could be heading to Manchester United
The centre-back has always been an area where United have lacked world-class names. Despite Harry Maguire’s addition, United are still in the need of another option. That has led them to Raphael Varane, who is widely expected to leave Real Madrid this summer.
Another position they are looking to add to is right-back. While Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a good operator, he lacks the attacking instincts identified with modern full-backs. Hence, they are going after Kieran Tripper.
Deals for both players are expected to be completed soon. It will cost United a combined sum of £68million. That would in turn take their summer spending to over £140million after the addition of Jadon Sancho. Varane’s deal could be done by next week while Trippier is keen on returning to England.

These two additions will strengthen the United backline no doubt. That should help United and Solskjaer to compete for the big prizes this season and get their hands on a much-awaited trophy. It is still unclear if United will push for more signings after these deals.
