Manchester United prepare two bring in two players ahead of Jadon Sancho
According to Sport (h/t The Express), Manchester United will prioritise the signings of two players ahead of making a move for Jadon Sancho.
The Red Devils are keen to strengthen their defence and make it the best in the Premier League. There is clearly some work to be done but the club believes adding Raphael Varane and Kieran Trippier to the squad is a step in the right direction.
While United finished with the second-most goals in the Premier League last season, our defence was only the fifth-best. In fact, the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal who finished below us all conceded fewer goals.
While United’s interest in Varane and Trippier is no secret, the club is set to ramp it up in the coming weeks. Of United’s resources, it is often the defence that has derailed our performances.
It makes sense for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the club to address the Achilles heel before adding the crown jewels such as Sancho.
According to the report, both Varane and Trippier are now in the final 12 months of their contracts. This could very well be the last chance for both Real Madrid and Atletico to secure a fee.
Varane looks set to reject an offer from Real while there have been contrasting reports of Tripper’s intentions of returning to England. While the former may walk into the United starting XI, Trippier is less assured of his spot thanks to Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The English international will however be an addition who can prove a dual-threat down the right flank. Something that we have sorely lacked in recent seasons.

The prospect of reinforcing our right flank with both Sancho and Tripper could prove pivotal in breaking down defensive teams. It will add much to that part of our squad, which right now represents a weak spot.
While we understand the rationale behind strengthening the defence, it is essential that we get these deals over the line quickly. The last thing we want is for yet another summer window to be derailed by a long and drawn out saga for Sancho.
