Manchester United reach ‘total agreement’ in their efforts to sign Raphael Varane
According to Spanish journalist Pipi Estrada via El Chiringuito TV (h/t The Express), Manchester United have reached a complete agreement with Raphael Varane over a switch to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are in the market for a centre-back and the 28-year-old Frenchman has emerged as a top target. With his tryst with this summer’s European Championship has come to an abrupt end, it remains to be seen if United will speed up their efforts to land him.
With a good chunk of the summer still left, United have time on their hands to close the deal. Hopefully, it will happen sooner rather than later, giving the defender a proper pre-season to adjust to his new surroundings.
While Estrada’s comments hint at the move already been agreed upon, another journalist Edu Aguirre has dismissed claims that the player is seeking to leave Real Madrid.
While the reports contradict each other, there is little doubt that United are interested in the player. With a move for Jadon Sancho almost done, the Red Devils will soon be in a position to shift all their attention to Varane.
The player is keen for a new challenge after 10 trophy-filled years at the Santiago Bernabeu. With just a year left on his current deal, Real do not have a strong hand in negotiations.
The player for his part is keen to earn £400,000-a-week in wages. This will comfortably make him the highest-paid player at the club. This has however done little to dampen United’s enthusiasm in landing him.
