Transfer News: Manchester United register interest in Christoph Baumgartner
According to transfer news from Express, Manchester United have expressed an interest in signing Christoph Baumgartner. The Austrian’s performances in the Euros have put him on the radar of clubs such as United and Liverpool. Both sides are considering bids for him.
Baumgartner rose through the youth ranks of SV Horn and St. Polten in Austria before being snapped up by Hoffenheim in 2017. After impressing for the club’s reserve side, the midfielder was promoted to the first team in January 2019.
The Austrian playmaker’s stocks have been on the rise over the past 18 months. Baumgartner has amassed 16 goals and 13 assists in 71 appearances for Hoffenheim in all competitions so far. He also featured prominently for Austria in their recently concluded UEFA Euro 2020 campaign.
His standout performances have not gone unnoticed as United and Liverpool have made their interest known. Capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, Baumgartner can also play a deeper role. It is understood that both sides are expected to make offers for the Hoffenheim starlet later over the summer.

It wouldn’t make much sense to go after an attacking midfielder with Bruno Fernandes in the side. However, as United are finding out, the Portuguese will need some cover as he looks fatigued after a draining 20 months. Baumgartner may not be the finished product yet but he is a talented bloke. United would do well to evaluate their options and maybe pursue him later.
