Rudy Galetti: Manchester United prepare contract renewal for Paul Pogba

According to the Italian journalist Rudy Galetti on Twitter, Manchester United have made headway in their pursuit of securing a new contract for Paul Pogba this summer.

The 28-year-old’s deal at United is up next summer, meaning he could potentially walk away for free in a year’s time. Such a thought is unfathomable given the club-record fee that we paid for him five years ago.

The Red Devils are well aware of the disadvantage they find themselves in and could seek to cash in this summer, provided the player won’t commit to a new deal. However, there appear to be no takers for United’s €80m (£68.8m) asking price.

It would appear that a contract renewal is in the offing with Pogba set to be offered fresh new terms. The French ace is currently United’s second-highest earner with a weekly wage of £290,000 per month. His tally is bettered by only David de Gea, who earns a mammoth £350,000 per week. (h/t The Sun)

According to Galetti, Pogba will secure around €22m (£18.9m) in wages. This amounts to about £364,000 in today’s currency. This takes him past De Gea effectively making the Frenchman our top earner. While it is debatable if United should be offering him such generous terms, their hands could be tied in this scenario.

This is in line with an earlier report by The Sun which claimed that the Frenchman is in for a lucrative new deal. Accepting the deal will ensure that the French ace will spend the prime of his career at Old Trafford.

Pogba revealed earlier this month that no agreement had been settled with United yet. However, that may not be far away, and the early noises between both camps have so far been positive. This will be good news for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is keen to keep hold of his star player. (h/t The Sun)

In the end, money could do all the talking.
