Kieran Trippier not keen to return to England amidst Manchester United interest
According to The Mirror, Manchester United have been handed a major blow in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier.
The 30-year-old has resurrected his career since moving from Tottenham to Spain in 2019. He played a key role in Diego Simeone’s side winning the La Liga last season.
The Red Devils are keen on bringing in a right-back to compete alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka this summer. They were keen to take advantage of Atletico’s dire financial situation to force a move for Trippier.
The player, however, does not appear keen to return to his homeland. He has decided against returning to the Premier League this summer.
Trippier has formed an excellent relationship with Simeone and appears keen to continue the association. The Argentine has a reputation for getting the best out of some players and the Englishman has certainly benefitted under his tutelage.
With Trippier now out of the equation, United will have to look elsewhere for their man. Who Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will move for remains to be seen.
Trippier not only is an excellent set-piece taker but also offers a punch in attack. This is a far cry from Wan-Bissaka, who is solid at the back but not so good offensively.
The 30-year-old will offer United a different option and could prove to be pivotal if we are serious about mixing things up. If anything, the Europa League final showcased the lack of different options we had on the bench.
