Transfer News: Atletico Madrid ace Kieran Trippier keen on a January move to Manchester United

According to transfer news on AS (h/t Manchester Evening News), Kieran Trippier could still seal an exit from Atletico Madrid in January as he remains ‘keen’on a move to Manchester United.

The 31-year-old had five incredible seasons under Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham after he signed from Burnley. Trippier moved up the ranks and became the starting right-back at the club after Kyle Walker left for Man City. He was also part of the Spurs squad that made the 2019 UEFA Champions League final.

However, he signed for Atletico in 2019 and played a pivotal part in their La Liga triumph last season. The full-back provided 6 assists in 28 league appearances and looked set for an exit in the summer.

Man United were interested, and it is believed that Trippier also wanted to sign for the club. However, that deal never panned out, and he stayed at the Spanish club. But a move could now be back on in January.

The La Liga outfit did not budge on the valuation of the player this year but could do so in the winter transfer window. Atletico can churn out some cash for him if they do choose to sell him in January.

The Red Devils have made a formation change recently and have reverted to a back three. Aaron wan-Bissaka does not seem all that comfortable in that position and lacks the end product in the final third. The Manchester-based club wants to challenge the young Englishman by signing a new right-back.

Trippier could certainly help with this, as he looks assured in both phases of the game. Moreover, the player remains interested in making a move to Old Trafford.

Thus, in a deal that could suffice all parties, United could strengthen their squad mid-season.
