Manchester United could make a move for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde in the January transfer window
According to Spanish outlet AS (h/t Express), Manchester United could be in line to swoop in for Jules Kounde, who is also on the radar of Premier League rivals Chelsea.
The 22-year-old La Liga defender has garnered a lot of attention from Premier League clubs. It is also believed that Chelsea put an offer of £42.5million on the table. This was rejected as Sevilla evaluated the defender to cost much more. The report suggests that the La Liga side ‘fear’ Man United could swoop in to pay his £69million release clause.
The Andalusians are currently enjoying a fruitful season in the Spanish League. They are placed in 3rd position on the La Liga table and only one point behind leaders Real Sociedad. Julen Lopetegui’s squad have managed to create a solid foundation and Kounde has been an instrumental part of their defence this season.
It is believed that the French professional footballer was interested in a move to the Blues and even turned down the opportunity to join Tottenham Hotspur. The Red Devils have leaked a lot of goals at the back this season despite having top defenders like Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Luke Shaw in that backline.
At the same time, they have struggled to open defences and suffered abysmal losses to Liverpool and Manchester City in the PL in recent weeks. The Old Trafford outfit has spent a fortune to purchase some of the top centre-backs in the world and Raphael Varane also made the switch to the Red Devils in the last transfer window.
Despite all these options, Ole Gunnar Solskajer has been unsuccessful in creating a stable defensive line that performs consistently on a regular basis. Kounde is 22 years old and could be a great addition to this Man United side with his passing abilities and aerial prowess.
