Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier praises some of the Manchester United stars

Speaking to Chronicle Live, Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier praised a few of the Manchester United stars ahead of the Carabao Cup Final on Sunday.

The Carabao Cup offers the first chance to lift a major silverware for United this season. It could end our six-year wait for a trophy as well.

Newcastle won’t be easy opponents though as they boast the best defensive record in the Premier League this season. The Magpies will go into that game with a bit of a doubt though as Nick Pope is suspended following his red card offence against Liverpool. They will have Loris Karius in goal, which is not ideal given what happened the last time he played a cup final.

Here’s what Trippier said when asked about the United players and how to deal with them (h/t Chronicle Live):

“I know Marcus very well. I’m really happy for him because I’ve always known how unbelievable he is and he’s certainly hit some form. But it’s not about one individual – you’ve got Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Luke Shaw, who’s been unbelievable this season as well.

“We can’t be too focused on them. Obviously, we need to review them, of course, but we need to focus on how we can hurt them. We want to go into that final to win. That’s our only priority.”

For Erik ten Hag’s men, it is important not to look too far ahead. They have the return leg of the Europa League tie against Barcelona to contend with before thinking about the final. Those are the perks of being alive in all four competitions at this stage of the season.

Looking at Newcastle’s form and the loss of Pope, we should go to Wembley as favourites to win the game. But, as we all know, cup finals are such a different game compared to any. No team can be taken lightly irrespective of their past form.

The last time United lifted a trophy was the Europa League back in 2017 under Jose Mourinho. For a club as big as this, it is a shame that nothing was won since then till the end of last season.
