Transfer News: Newcastle United eye Atletico Madrid ace Kieran Trippier in January amidst Manchester United links
According to talkSPORT (h/t Daily Star), Newcastle United are set to seal a deal for Atletico Madrid ace Kieran Trippier in January amidst transfer interest from Manchester United in the summer.
The 31-year-old played a pivotal role in helping the La Liga club lift the league title last season as he provided 6 assists in 28 appearances. However, he is in the final year of his contract and was being targeted by Man United in the summer.
The 13-time Premier League champions were looking to strengthen several areas on the pitch. We brought in Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane, and Jadon Sancho, but a move for Trippier never materialised despite the player pushing to complete a return to England.
Newcastle are now looking to deliver a potential blow to the Red Devils by orchestrating a deal for him in January. According to AS last month (h/t Daily Mail), Trippier has still been open to the idea of moving to Old Trafford despite the failed summer move.
Eddie Howe is keen on reuniting with his former disciple; so much so that the Toon Army are ready to make him their highest-paid squad member and offer Atletico £25million for his services.
The emergence of Diogo Dalot
The idea behind signing the English international in the summer would have been to provide some competition to Aaron wan-Bissaka. The former Crystal Palace star has been playing an enormous number of games for the last two years due to the lack of a proper deputy.
Diogo Dalot was rarely afforded chances by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, courtesy of which the Portuguese international failed to impress. However, he has come into his own under the new management. He has played in the last three league games for the club and has helped secure three crucial victories.
Ralf Rangnick has promoted an attractive brand of football, and the 22-year-old is characterizing it through his defensive style and attacking flair. Wan-Bissaka has struggled in attack at times and may now have to fight for a place back into the starting line-up.

Thus, there is enough competition in this role especially with Ethan Laird, Brandon Williams, and Axel Tuanzebe returning from their loan moves in the summer. Trippier would have added experience in the ranks with his quality and versatility. But it is time to promote the youth and the Red Devils have the perfect manager to do so.
