Manchester United open to letting Diogo Dalot join AS Roma only if they sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid
According to journalist Gianluca di Marzio (h/t ESPN), Manchester United shall allow Diogo Dalot to join AS Roma only if they can sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.
Dalot joined the Red Devils in 2018 under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho. The Portuguese manager was keen on a deal back then and is keen on bringing him to Roma in January.
The full-back has suffered for minutes this season, with Aaron wan-Bissaka playing a majority of the games. The 22-year-old is yet to start a league game and could be considering leaving Old Trafford.
He already has experience of playing in Serie A, as he spent the 2019/20 season on loan at AC Milan. Moreover, the Italian club are also ready to sign him on loan before orchestrating a permanent transfer.
However, this may suit Jose Mourinho and Dalot, but it does not do anything for Man United. The Red Devils are willing to let go of the Portuguese international only if they can sign Kieran Trippier.
The English international is plying his trade at Atletico Madrid currently, as he helped them win La Liga last season. The Manchester-based outfit has been keen on a deal for him for a few months now but has been put off by his £40million release clause.

Wan-Bissaka could use some active competition in the full-back role, and Trippier could be the ideal man to provide that. Additionally, the 31-year-old can play on either side, as he has done so for the Three Lions previously.
Trippier already has a good understanding of the Premier League from his Tottenham days. Thus, this deal could be completed, and Dalot could be sent to Italy. However, it shall be down to United to pay the release clause, something they have been jittery about since feigning interest in the player.
