La Liga giants seek to tie down 30-year-old English stare on Man United radar

Atletico set to offer Kieran Trippier fresh terms amidst Manchester United interest

According to The Telegraph (Subscription Required), Atletico Madrid is set to offer Kieran Trippier a new contract amidst interest from Manchester United.

The 30-year-old became one of the few English players in history to win the La Liga title this season. Trippier featured in 28 games in the league, making six assists and playing his role in the team’s success. (h/t Transfermarkt)

United are in the market for a right-back this summer. The aim is to bring in a player who can compete alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The 23-year-old is currently the first choice at Old Trafford.

Trippier not only is an excellent set-piece taker but also offers a punch in attack. This is a far cry from Wan-Bissaka, who is solid at the back but poor offensively.

The 30-year-old will offer United a different option and will grant Ole Gunnar Solskjaer different possibilities if the situation calls for it.

Trippier currently has two years left on his current deal. Signing an extension now would very well cement his place in La Liga for the better part of his remaining years at the top level.

It was reported last December that Trippier was open to a switch to United. The Englishman grew up in the town of Manchester and is familiar with the environment.

An experienced player with top-level experience, Trippier would add much to the United squad.

Trippier is not the only right-back on United’s radar. The Red Devils are also keeping tabs on Norwich City star Max Aarons. It remains to be seen if the latest developments regarding Trippier will see us shift focus to Aarons.
