Solskjaer believes Amad Diallo still has much to learn despite Manchester United heroics
It was a night to remember for Amad Diallo as he scored his first Manchester United goal at the senior level against AC Milan in the Europa League on Thursday.
The youngster started the night on the bench but came on for the injured Anthony Martial at half-time. He was on the scoresheet just five minutes later after diverting a Bruno Fernandes pass past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The goal gave the Red Devils the advantage going into the final half-hour of the match. It also gave onlookers an idea of the talent the young starlet posesses.
Speaking to BT Sports (h/t Daily Star), manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has, however, taken a much more reserved stand. He praised both Fernandes and Diallo before going on to admit that the youngster still has much to learn.
“Great pass by Bruno that makes the goal. Amad, nice goal, still got loads to learn. He’ll be better after that.”
Diallo has been phenomenal for the Under-23s and there is real hype surrounding him. By choosing to play down what could be a significant moment in his career, Solskjaer will be taking the spotlight off the 18-year-old.
This should afford him the time to develop and evolve into a leading player for the club.
Back to the future!
Diallo’s goal was reminiscent of the one scored by Javier Hernandez against Stoke City in 2010. The Mexican was an excellent player for United and hopefully, Diallo will go on to be the same in the years to come.
With Martial joining Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford on the sidelines, it remains to be seen if Diallo will be given an extended run in the coming matches.
