Manchester United star Anthony Martial set for a hip scan following Milan draw
It was a frustrating night at the office for Manchester United star Anthony Martial on Thursday against AC Milan. The Frenchman, who just returned from a training ground injury, could be set for yet another spell on the sidelines.
The 25-year-old was taken off for Amad Diallo at half=time. The youngster went on to open the scoring in the second half.
According to Manchester Evening News, Martial will now undergo a scan before we can understand the extent of his injury. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that the player had taken a knock in the first half and will now need to be assessed.
“Anthony got a whack on his hip so there’s another forward we need to scan and look at.”
The Frenchman’s injury has come at a bad time for United. The Red Devils are short of experience upfront given the recent spate of injuries.
Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford are both recovering from knocks themselves, leaving the club shorn of senior strikers to choose from. The United bench on the night painted a stark picture with Diallo and 17-year-old Shola Shoretire the only attacking reinforcements.
Haste makes waste!
Solskjaer expects both Martial and Cavani to miss the Premier League game against West Ham United on Sunday. He, however, remains hopeful that Rashford will be back in contention.
The United boss will do well to tread carefully regarding the 23-year-old Englishman. Rashford is already nursing a shoulder injury and has been playing through the pain barrier.
Forcing him back before he is ready could very well be the worst approach at this point in time. Hopefully, cooler heads will prevail and the youngster will be given the time to get back into shape.
