Manchester United to focus on securing Erling Haaland and Jules Kounde over Jadon Sancho
Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho last summer. However, a deal could not be agreed upon and the winger stayed put in Germany.
While the club does remain interested in securing his services, he is far from the priority this summer. According to Express, fellow Dortmund star Erling Haaland and Sevilla ace Jules Kounde have both overtaken the Englishman in United’s wish list.
A major reason for United shifting their focus is the capture of Ivorian wonderkid Amad Diallo. The 18-year-old is capable of playing on the right-wing and has wowed so far in training. He even scored a double on his United debut against Liverpool Under-23s in an emphatic 6-3 win.
With the youngster potentially providing an alternative to Sancho, the club are keen to strengthen other areas of the pitch.
Given Edinson Cavani’s age and Anthony Martial’s inconsistency, bringing in an infallible scorer will give our attack a massive boost. There are few better in the world today than Haaland.
The young Norwegian, who played under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Molde, could be the ideal long-term solution to our striking woes. United were keen on signing him last January, only for him to join Dortmund instead.
If anything, he has taken his ability up a notch and has replaced Sancho as Dortmund’s stand-out young talent. Signing him would be nothing short of a coup.
A noticeable weakness
Another problematic position in the United squad is central defence. While Harry Maguire is more or less dependable, he lacks a partner he can rely on.
Sevilla star Jules Kounde has seen his stock rise in recent months and has emerged as a target for the Red Devils. Signing both players while allowing Diallo to flourish would be the dream scenario for United.

Both Haaland and Kounde are also at an age where they can contribute in the long run. Signing them would ensure we have two key positions locked in for years to come. Whether United manage to land them remains to be seen.
