Amad Diallo scored two goals on his Manchester United debut against Liverpool U-23
The moment that all Manchester United fans were waiting for finally arrived on Saturday as Amad Diallo made his U-23 debut against Liverpool U-23 in Premier League 2.
The two rivals collided in the development league just 2 points away from each other. U-23 manager Neil Wood stated before the game that it would be a challenging game for Diallo. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
“I wouldn’t say it was an easy game to come into, our local rivals, so, yes, it’s going to be challenging for him [against Liverpool].”
But it turned out to be an immense debut from the Ivory Coast winger. The 18-year-old stole the ball from a Liverpool defender and was clean through on goal in the 15th minute.
Diallo scored an impressive brace
After that, there was only one outcome. He put the Red Devils 1-0 up, and the game continued at a frantic pace after this.
Diallo stole much of the limelight from what was a magnanimous performance from 17-year-old striker Joe Hugill. The Durham-born striker scored 4 goals in a 9-goal fest this weekend.
United’s last goal of the game was scored by the former Atalanta winger. Diallo coolly slotted a ‘panenka’ penalty to put United out of sight.
Liverpool equallized just before half-time to send the teams tied at 2-2 during the break. United were ruthless in the second half, as they scored the next 4 goals of the game and went out of sight.
The 6-3 win sends the United U-23 side above Liverpool in the table in 7th place. Diallo was signed by United in the summer, but his move was only confirmed this month.
