Manchester United star Marcus Rashford hits back after being racially attacked on social media
Manchester United star Marcus Rashford was the latest victim of racial abuse online.
The 23-year-old, however, refused to be provoked and is not keen to give the haters the satisfaction of having garnered a response. Rashford is the third United player to receive such treatment this week, after Axel Tuanzebe and Anthony Martial. (h/t Sky Sports)
Social media can be a vile place and the events this week have showcased just that. The fact that these so-called fans can go out and brand a man by his colour is nothing but an indictment of their character and lack of moral fiber.
Rashford, for his part, is proud of who he is and nothing is going to change that. Certainly not a random person attacking him on social media.
The United star also refrained from posting screenshots and appears to be aware of not giving trolls a pedestal to air their views. Voices such as these are better off thrust aside and Rashford appears to be doing just that.
Meanwhile, our opponents on the night, Arsenal, showcased the good side of football by posting Rashford’s picture on their matchday program for the night. (h/t Daily Mail)
The United star has received widespread acclaim for his efforts to end child hunger. It is heartening to see rivals put aside their bias and focus on the importance of Rashford’s actions.
The player too thanked Arsenal for the gesture before going on to say tongue in cheek that he would have preferred to have taken all three points on the night instead.
