Angel Gomes instructs agent to talk with Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia
According to the Metro, Manchester United youngster, Angel Gomes is close to leaving after his agent held talks with Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia.
The 19-year-old is out of contract at Old Trafford this June and will be free to leave on a free transfer. United are keen to keep him and have offered him a new deal. The player has, however, rejected an extension that would fetch him around £25,000-a-week.
Gomes is holding out for a more lucrative offer while also seeking assurance on more first-team opportunities.
This has garnered interest from Chelsea, who are ready to give the player the playing time he desires. With the Blues experiencing a youth revolution under Frank Lampard, a number of youngsters have found playing time easier to come by this season. (h/t Metro)
The player has now approached super-agent Pini Zahavi to help secure a move to Stamford Bridge. The Israeli agent is on excellent terms with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
Zahavi has held talks with Chelsea director Granovskaia. The Blues are increasingly confident that they will now land the England Under-20 international. (h/t Metro)
All hope is not lost for United as the player can yet be swayed to stay put at Old Trafford. It will, however, need the club to offer him a deal in excess of £30,000-a-week and a promise that he will receive more appearances.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still retains hope that the player will follow fellow youth star Tahith Chong in committing to the club.
