Dean Henderson closes in on lucrative Manchester United contract

According to The Sun, Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is closing in on a new lucrative four-year deal.

Signing it will see the 23-year-old net £100,000-a-week in wages. This is a significant improvement on the £60,000-a-week contract signed just last year.

According to the report, United’s commitment is a sign of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s faith in the goalkeeper. The Norweigian intends for the Englishman to challenge David de Gea for the number one spot at Old Trafford.

The Spaniard has come under intense scrutiny following a spate of errors in recent months. Coming off a standout loan spell at Sheffield United, Henderson returns to Manchester with his reputation enhanced.

Currently, the player’s representatives are in talks with United over the deal. It will also include the option of a 12-month extension that can be enforced anytime.

Henderson continues to be linked with a move to Chelsea. However, the Blues are yet to make an official bid for the player. (h/t The Sun)

No shortage of choices

With Sergio Romero and Lee Grant also at the club, United are not short of options in goal. Extending Henderson’s contract will see United shell out £575,000 per week on just their keepers.

Henderson had earlier issued an ultimatum to United to make him the number one at the club or let him leave. With new terms on the table, it would appear the club are ready to take a stand on the matter.

De Gea only signed a new deal last year. It remains to be seen how Solskjaer intends to make use of his resources next season.

The Spaniard has seen his star wane in recent years. Henderson, on the other hand, is a young star on the rise. Only time will tell if the Spaniard rises to the challenge or will get usurped by the Henderson.
