Manchester United hit an impasse in Odion Ighalo loan extension

According to the Standard, Manchester United have hit a roadblock in their attempts to extend the loan of Nigerian ace Odion Ighalo.

The striker’s contract is set to expire at the end of this month. With football currently suspended, United risk losing him before the end of the season in case the deal is not extended.

His parent club Shanghai Shenhua is adamant that the player returns to China for the start of the Chinese Super League campaign. This would mean that Ighalo will have already played his last game for United.

Although his arrival at Old Trafford came as a shock, Ighalo has chosen to do his talking on the pitch. He has scored four goals and one assist in eight games and is yet to lose as a United player.

The Red Devils are only keen on a temporary deal in spite of the Nigerian’s performances. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had earlier revealed that the player has done his chances of a new contract any harm. According to the report, the Chinese side want £20million in order to make the deal permanent.

A permanent deal will also require the striker to take a significant pay cut. He currently earns £300,000-a-week in Shanghai.

With Marcus Rashford also back in training, it can be argued that United do not need Ighalo as much as they did back in February.

Ighalo has proven to be a shrewd signing. Playing for the club one supports is a dream come true for any player.

Ighalo has had the chance to live it and to be fair, he has done justice to the faith put in him.
