According to Foot Mercato (h/t the Mirror), the agent of Odion Ighalo has confirmed that they are ‘very close’ to agreeing upon an extension to the player’s loan at Manchester United.

The 30-year-old is somewhat of a cult hero at Old Trafford after a spate of impressive performances since joining the club in January.

His return of four goals and one assist in eight games has silenced critics who mocked his signing. (h/t Transfermarkt)

With his loan expiring at the end of this month, United were keen to extend his stay until the end of the season. However, his parent club Shanghai Shenhua had been demanding his return to China.

Negotiations between the two clubs seemed to have reached an impasse. It now seems there is still hope for United. The player’s agent Ladi Salami went on to confirm that the negotiations with the Chinese have been going smoothly.

“On the one hand, the Super Eagle feels very good in Manchester with which it is very close to a salary agreement.”

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had earlier revealed that he is keen on the player staying put in Manchester.

Although star striker Marcus Rashford is now back in training, the availability of the Nigerian star gives us more options in attack. Ighalo has done well to show that he still has it within him to compete at the highest level.
