Manchester United legend Dimitar Berbatov predicted a tight Red Devils victory against Tottenham Hotspur as his two former clubs collide. Berbatov predicted a 1-0 home victory in the Premier League clash on Saturday at Old Trafford.
United need to capitalise on their 2-0 FA Cup victory against Wigan Athletic on Tuesday and build some momentum. They faced a torrid first half of the season, losing 14 games from 29 matches in all competitions.
United faces a daunting task against Spurs, who only lost against Bright & Hove Albion in the last five fixtures. The London side has struggled with an injury crisis like the Red Devils, but they have enjoyed more success.
Despite registering four home losses at Old Trafford in the Premier League, Old Trafford gives a certain edge to United. Manager Erik ten Hag could use his counter-attacking tactics to win against Ange Postecoglou’s singular attack-minded strategy.
Berbatov shared his match predictions with Metro.co.uk, expecting a tight game at Old Trafford between his two former clubs. He said:
“I can see this being a tight game and I’m going to say it will be 1-0 to United. It sounds boring, but I hope that’s not the case. I think there’s a lot at stake for both teams. That can sometimes play with your mind and make you not produce your best game possible.”
United lost 2-0 to Spurs at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League during the first half of the season. The Red Devils enjoyed more shots than Spurs but failed to capitalise on the chances that they created.
United registered 2.07 Expected goals (xG) during the game but failed to score any goals. They cannot afford to be wasteful again when they face Spurs on their home turf. United forward Rasmus Hojlund received criticism after the Wigan game for missing easy chances. The 20-year-old has scored one goal in the Premier League this season as his attacking teammates also struggled with form.
