‘Disgraceful’ Manchester United forward catches flak from Frank McAvennie for only scoring two goals this season
While talking to Football Insider, Frank McAvennie did not go easy on Manchester United forward Anthony Martial. He believes the Frenchman has been ‘disgraceful’ to the Old Trafford squad.
Martial has been a part of the Manchester United ranks since 2015. He displayed good potential early on and was ultimately signed to a 5-year extension in 2019. However, he could soon be on his way out as the club has no intentions to keep him past his contract.
Fans make a big deal about the player whenever he performs. Perhaps this is what has led to his downfall. Now, that he is out of form scoring just two goals in 19 appearances, it seems like everyone has turned their back on him. (Transfermarkt)
It appears that all the hype surrounding the player led people to believe that he was better than he actually was. This becomes more apparent every time Martial takes the field and fails to make a difference.
Let’s have a look at what pundit Frank McAvennie had to say about the situation. (h/t Football Insider)
“He hasn’t done himself any justice. There was one time a few seasons ago when he did a good trick, but that’s all he’s done!
“I agree with Roy Keane. I see him talking about Martial and [Keane] loves Man United, but even he doesn’t like him.
“He says more or less the same as what I’m thinking – just like with Bruno Fernandes.
McAvennie might have been a little harsh with his words but he does make sense. Manchester United have seen a world of struggle this season. During all of that, Anthony Martial has been counted on multiple times but has failed to produce any results.
His drop in form and his low confidence in front of goal have contributed to Manchester United’s poor campaign.

Another attacker that comes to mind when talking about Martial is Marcus Rashford. When people look at them failing to do their job over and over again, their ridiculous wages start to look unjustified.
If Marcus Rashford can’t turn things around soon, he should also get ready to receive the same treatment as Anthony Martial.
