Manchester United may return for their summer target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg if Casemiro exits during the January transfer window
Manchester United are planning to re-visit their summer target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg if Casemiro leaves the club in January. Casemiro faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford due to his issues with injuries and inconsistent performances.
While sidelined with injury, the Brazilian’s absence prompted United manager Erik ten Hag to deploy youngster Kobbie Mainoo as a replacement. New signing Sofyan Amrabat has featured in a defensive midfield role but failed to impress with his performances.
Casemiro has been prolific in front of goals for the Red Devils but struggled with his defensive duties. United’s opponent targeted the Brazil captain’s lack of pace and energy to keep up with the midfield runners. This exposed the spaces between midfield and the defence, making United vulnerable as they conceded many goals.
United have lost 12 games in all competitions this season, already crashing out of the Champions League and Carling Cup. The Red Devils have conceded a whopping 39 goals in all competitions so far, showing immense vulnerabilities in the defence.
Sky Sports reported that United are planning to revisit their summer target Hojbjerg in case Casemiro exits the club. The Denmark international has attracted interest from other clubs in England and Italy for his services.
The 28-year-old is currently a backup to Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr in the Tottenham Hotspur setup. However, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou would lose Bissouma and Sarr during the African Cup of Nations next year.
The Red Devils need defensive reinforcement in various departments as well as a defensive midfielder better than what they have. Spurs are a direct competition for the top four position in the Premier League for United.

Whether they will be willing to sell Hojbjerg to their competitive rivals in the middle of the season remains uncertain. The potential deal would weaken the Spurs while United strengthens, making the deal highly unlikely at the moment.
