Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag backs Rasmus Hojlund to score more goals for the team.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has conveyed his confidence in Rasmus Hojlund to become a prolific goal scorer. The 20-year-old has delighted the Old Trafford crowd with fantastic performances; however, United need more goal-scorers this season.

United have a negative goal difference in the Premier League as they currently lie 8th in the Premier League table. The Red Devils have suffered from imbalance and vulnerability in many areas this season. United’s forwards Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have failed to contribute this season.

Furthermore, youngsters Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri have failed to impress the manager and the fans to start regular games. Ten Hag’s last season’s signing, Antony, has not lived up to the expectations and his price tag so far.

Ten Hag told the press conference (h/t Forbes) on Monday that he is confident that Hojlund will get more prolific. He said:

“I think he’s a player who will always be in scoring positions in our team. I am sure, and I am confident he will score goals. First of all, we have to work our routines, he misses pre-season, the first four games, but I think from the moment he came in, he gave the team a lot. We’re building the routines and that spilt moment will give him more time and to make better decisions for more goals”

United signed Hojlund from Serie A side Atalanta in the summer transfer window. Ten Hag prioritized a forward signing as the Manchester giants wanted a forward to lead the line and score goals.

The Red Devils ranked eighth in the Premier League last season for most goals scored. They scored 58 goals which is 36 goals behind Premier League winners Manchester City, showing the difference between two rivals.

Hojlund has failed to score in any of his Premier League games so far this season. The 20-year-old has three goals out of nine appearances in all competitions so far this season. The Denmark international has only scored in the Champions League fixtures against Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.

The Dane has been fantastic for United in his overall gameplay but the club is starving for more goals. Hojlund joined United after getting assurances from Ten Hag that he would be a regular starter. However, the 20-year-old needs to contribute with goals and be consistent as the expectations are always high at United.
