Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag endorsed Rasmus Hojlund to break his Premier League goalscoring duck. Hojlund is yet to open his Premier League account despite scoring five goals in the short Champions League campaign.

United have struggled to get consistent goals from their attacking department as they plummeted out of two competitions. They are already out of European competitions after finishing fourth in the Champions League and out of the Carabao Cup.

Ten Hag has struggled to get the best out of his team since the start of the season. The Red Devils have shown vulnerability in defence while inability to form cohesion to score regular goals. United forwards Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial received scrutiny for their poor contributions as they looked stagnant and uninterested.

Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund has enjoyed backing from media, manager and the fans despite struggling to score in the Premier League so far this season.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Ten Hag assured Hojlund is a very good finisher and will soon break the duck. He said:

“If you can score in the Champions League, you can also score in the Premier League. It’s just a matter of time. I think don’t only be focused on Rasmus Hojlund, we have to focus on us as a team to improve our attacking game and improve the group of offensive players so that we can create more. We are absolutely convinced that Rasmus is a very good finisher.”

Ten Hag signed Hojlund during the summer after his team struggled to have more than one goalscoring threat last season. United relied on Rashford’s fine form last season while only managing to score 58 goals in the Premier League.

The United boss targeted a goal poacher during the summer and ended up signing Hojlund from Atalanta for £72m. Despite the perennial links with proven goal scorers like Harry Kane, Ten Hag opted to sign the 20-year-old.

The Danish forward joined United as a long-term project with enough quality to start the game and produce early. A club of United’s stature demands results when a player dons their jersey, representing them at the highest level.

Despite the promising start to the season and goalscoring campaign in the Champions League, Hojlund has struggled in domestic competitions. The 20-year-old has missed nine big chances in the Premier League, ranking fifth in the big chances missed stats.

Hojlund needs to start producing for the Red Devils as his primary job is to link-up front and produce output. The Danish forward has all the quality required to be a success for the Red Devils.
