Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag remains confident in the senior team’s attackers to deliver in front of goals
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag praised the attack department amid the lack of goals in the Premier League. Only Marcus Rashford has scored from the United’s attack in the Premier League so far, with just one goal.
United have struggled to find consistency while showing vulnerabilities in various areas of the pitch. The Red Devils have lost nine out of 18 games in all competitions due to imbalance and lack of cohesion.
Ten Hag’s team has conceded 30 goals in all competitions and only managed to score 25 in return. United have won four out of their last five Premier League games but only by narrow margins.
Ten Hag told the reporters at his press conference (h/t Manchester Evening News) that his attackers are competent goal scorers. He said:
“Our players are able to score goals, some have showed it already. Rashy scored last season 30 goals, Rasmus Hojlund scored five goals in the Champions League, that’s massive. Not many players across Europe can deliver that. Our players are capable of scoring goals, and there will come a point they will do.”
United signed Rasmus Hojlund during the summer transfer window to bolster their attacking ranks for the current season. The Red Devils scored only 58 goals in the Premier League last season and mostly relied on Rashford’s impressive form. However, the Englishman has failed to recreate his last season’s consistent performances and regressed back to his past inconsistencies.
On the other hand, Hojlund has given optimistic performances, scoring five goals from four games in the Champions League. Nevertheless, the Danish forward has struggled to open his account in the Premier League so far.
Ten Hag is already down one forward since his public fallout with Jadon Sancho, leaving the forward banished. The 53-year-old signed Antony in a costly transfer deal during the summer of 2022 to play at the right wing. He has failed to justify his value and he is yet to provide a goal or an assist this season.
