Manchester United are interested in signing Porto and Iran striker Mehdi Taremi
As per Portuguese outlet Jornal de Notícias (h/t Express Sport), Manchester United are keeping their sights on making Porto’s Mehdi Taremi as their new striker this summer.
United are in the market for a striker. They had earmarked Harry Kane as their primary target for the summer, but have withdrawn their interest citing the potential high price that would be required to sign the England captain.
The Red Devils are in the race to get Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund. A few days ago, it was revealed that the Serie A would demand something in the region of £86m for the Danish number nine. That range should surely be out of United’s range.
They are now keeping Taremi as their target. The Iran international has been at Porto since 2020, when he signed from fellow Portuguese club Rio Ave.
The 30-year-old scored 31 goals and assisted 14 in 51 appearances for Porto last season. He has been a consistent performer for them in the last couple of campaigns.
In terms of profile, the former Al-Gharafa marksman is a swift striker who is clever with his movements in and around the opposition box. He is good on the ball and can create chances along with scoring them at a decent rate.
But, as mentioned above, he is 30 now and going to turn 31 in July. Are United that desperate to sign a striker that they can hedge their bets on a 31-year-old? We should not think so.
However, who thought the club would pursue the signature of Wout Weghorst in January? Yet they did and got the Dutchman on loan.

No disrespect to Weghorst, but he did not seem the right fit from day one. For Taremi, he has been an excellent striker. But, the Red Devils cannot sign a 31-year-old and hope that he becomes a long-term solution to their issues in that department.
