FC Porto striker Mehdi Taremi on AS Roma radar amidst Manchester United interest
AS Roma are considering a move for FC Porto striker Mehdi Taremi this summer amidst interest from Manchester United, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.com.
The Giallorossi are monitoring a number of names to bolster their attack in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the Iran international is on the Serie A giants’ wishlist.
Apart from the 30-year-old, Jose Mourinho’s team also have West Ham United’s Gianluca Scamacca and Atletico Madrid star Alvaro Morata on their radar.
As things stand, Taremi’s current contract with Porto is set to expire in the summer of 2024. To that end, the Iranian is looking to move to pastures new to start a new chapter in his career. The Primeira Liga outfit value the 30-year-old at €20 million.
Man United are keeping tabs on Taremi as well, as per Jornal de Notícias (h/t Express). The Iranian has been prolific for the Portuguese outfit over the years.
Roma have the likes of Paulo Dybala and Tammy Abraham capable of playing through the middle up front. However, the English national suffered an ACL injury in the Giallorossi’s last game of the 2022/23 season.
On the other hand, the Red Devils lack depth in the number nine position. Anthony Martial is the only natural striker at Erik ten Hag’s disposal at the moment.
Wout Weghorst signed on loan for the Old Trafford side in January. While the Holland international struggled to find the back of the net, the 30-year-old’s stature and physicality made him a decent option for the gaffer to call upon.

Taremi is a tall and strong striker as well. The Iranian could evidently be a good option to have on the bench. However, whether the Manchester-based club will opt to pursue and compete with Roma for his signature remains to be seen.
