Erik ten Hag asks the Manchester United board to help him sign the top targets in the summer
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has asked the board to be ready to provide him with the funds to sign his top targets in the coming summer window.
The club is in an unstable state behind the scenes with the Glazers family yet to decide whether to fully sell the club or take partial investment. It is still unclear who will be the owner of this business entity when the summer transfer window begins.
Out of all the positions United may look to strengthen, getting a number nine is a must. A few weeks ago, ten Hag pointed out the need for a goal scorer who can finish off the chances they regularly create. After the game against Wolves, the Dutchman talked about being more clinical in front of the goal.
Here’s what the boss said when asked about the situation at the club and his plans for the transfer window (h/t Metro):
“It’s not up to me [club sale], it is an aspect of the club that other people deal with, the owners.
“I have to develop and to progress the team, and to of course plan. I will go for high standards, so I am planning my squad for next season in the background, with high standards. Then it is up to the others to decide if the finances are there.”
Harry Kane was earmarked by ten Hag as his primary target in the summer. Whether the United board will offer him the funds to sign the Tottenham Hotspur talisman, remains to be seen.
The club may also need to sign a goalkeeper as David de Gea is offered a new contract but is not assured of being the team’s number one next season onward.
In the midfield, Mateo Kovacic, who is likely to leave Chelsea this summer despite his contract running till 2024, is one of United’s targets as well.

Erik ten Hag needs to be backed properly in the summer after what he has done in his first season in charge. The first thing would be to provide the necessary funds and the second would be to make the signings as early as possible.
