Erik ten Hag was optimistic about Manchester United’s chances in shootout against Coventry City

Manchester United’s season came very close to ending tonight as Erik ten Hag and his crew took on Coventry City in the FA Cup semifinals. It was a six-goal thriller with nothing separating the two teams at full-time.

The Red Devils held the lead for the first 70 minutes of the game and after nothing separated the two sides after extra time, we headed into penalties. Here’s what Erik ten Hag said to his team ahead of the shootout. (h/t BBC)

“It was about mentality in that moment. You have a plan and have full confidence so I told them to stick to the plan.”

“I had confidence we would win the shootout.”

Ten Hag was also quick to say he trains his team well which would also go on to explain the Dutchman’s confidence. However, he might even be training them too hard since we have heard a few complaints about the intensity of Ten Hag’s training.

Manchester United barely for by during the game against Coventry. They now have to face their local rivals Man City in the Finals. However, that might be a tall task for a team that barely scraped by against a Championship side.

Did Coventry show a lot of character? Yes. But, United should’ve shone more and the game should never have been that close, to begin with. If United are so defensively lax against Pep Guardiola and his men the finals will be out of reach.

The FA Cup finals might prove to be the biggest game of Manchester United’s season, hopefully, Erik ten Hag will guide his team to victory.
