Manchester United make ‘colossal’ salary offer to Napoli defender Kim Min-jae

Manchester United have made a ‘colossal’ salary offer to convince Napoli star Kim Min-jae to join the Red Devils next summer, according to French outlet Foot Mercato (h/t The Sun).

The Old Trafford side are interested in acquiring the defender’s services next summer. To that end, the Manchester-based club have held talks with the South Korea international’s agent and are willing to pay his release clause.

While the centre-back is satisfied being at the Serie A giants, he dreams of playing in the Premier League. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the 26-year-old will fulfil his desire at the Theatre of Dreams.

Min-jae signed for Napoli last summer from Fenerbahce. The Italian outfit got the South Korean to replace Kalidou Koulibaly, who joined Chelsea in the English to fight.

The centre-back has immediately made a mark in Serie A. Under Luciano Spalletti, the defender has helped the Partenopei secure their first Scudetto in over three decades in the current campaign.

Napoli also enjoyed a decent run in the Champions League but were knocked out in the quarter-finals. Min-jae has made 43 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists.

Erik ten Hag is keen on bolstering his backline next summer. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have been the gaffer’s go-to duo in defence. But with the Argentine on the sidelines, we have struggled a bit.

The former Ajax head coach also has Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof at his disposal, but their futures at the club are uncertain. Luke Shaw has also played centrally on a few occasions in the current campaign.

Therefore, if we lose any of our defenders, reinforcements will evidently be required. However, despite the contract being offered to Min-jae, will he want to move to Manchester? Only time will tell.
