Manchester United vs Coventry City was full of cinematic moments. The Red Devils held the lead well into the 70th minute and that’s when it all came crumbling down for Erik ten Hag and his crew.

Coventry came up with back-to-back goals within 10 minutes and the score stood at 3-2. Just when United were about to pull through a stoppage-time penalty tied the game and we went into extra time.

Even extra time didn’t set the two teams apart, but Coventry did come up with a moment of brilliance during the dying minutes of extra time. However, their goal was disallowed after VAR interfered.

This changed the morale of Coventry City who fought against Manchester -United for 120 minutes just for their winning goal to be disallowed by a fractional offside call. Here’s what their manager had to say about it. (h/t BBC)

“The mentality changes because you’ve almost won it and then you haven’t. It puts you on the backfoot going into the penalty shootout.”

He added that he doesn’t blame any of his players for their misses and says his team will work to get better at penalties. Luckily, Manchester United came through and won the game on penalties.

The mood in Coventry will be heavy tonight. They had victory in their hands and had it all snatched away due to a VAR call. However, they should celebrate the stellar effort of their players.
