Brighton & Hove Albion plan contract talks with Evan Ferguson and ‘block’ Manchester United interest
Premier League rivals Brighton & Hove Albion have planned contract talks with Evan Ferguson and have blocked the interest from Manchester United in him, according to The Sun (h/t Metro).
In January 2021, the Seagulls signed the Ireland international from Bohemian Football Club. However, the Red Devils had also been tracking the 18-year-old before his move to the East Sussex-based club.
In October last year, the youngster signed a professional contract with the Amex Stadium side. However, seeing his meteoric rise over the last few months, Roberto De Zerbi’s team want to tie the forward down to a new deal.
Erik ten Hag is looking to bolster the attack at the Old Trafford side in the upcoming transfer window. However, with Tottenham Hotspur looking for a massive sum for Harry Kane, the Manchester-based club are looking at alternatives.
Ferguson is a young and talented striker. While the Irish national possesses a lot of potential, he is still raw when it comes to experience in the Premier League.
Therefore, the 18-year-old is definitely one to look out for in the future. However, United can seemingly not go into next season with the youngster leading the line.
At the moment, the Red Devils have only two natural strikers in Anthony Martial and Wout Weghorst. The Holland international has featured heavily over the last few weeks due to the former AS Monaco star’s fitness issues.
The French national has not been a reliable option for the gaffer in the current campaign. However, the Burnley loanee has left a lot to be desired in front of goal.

Therefore, we evidently need a prolific striker in the team. Ferguson is happy at Brighton for now. The 18-year-old has the option to develop further at the Amex Stadium. It would be wise for the Old Trafford side to revisit their interest in the Irish national in a few years’ time.
