According to Spanish publication Fichajes, Erik ten Hag wants to bring talented Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres to Manchester United on the back of his impressive season in the Portugal league.

The former Coventry City striker has caught the attention of all the top clubs in the world with his performances in the Liga NOS this season. Despite being just one season into his time at Sporting CP, he is already linked with a big-money move in the summer.

In 45 games across all competitions this season, the 25-year-old Swedish striker has 38 goals and 16 assists. That is a whopping 54 goal contributions in 45 games. Sometimes, stats paint a picture and this is one of those times.

Sporting CP obviously wants to make hay when the sun is still shining. They are apparently not looking to part ways with Gyokeres for below his release clause of €100m. Man Utd are not willing to spend that fee.

Compromises have to be made by both parties to get this deal over the line. Man Utd will need to bring out their cheque book and Sporting CP need to identify a way to get what they want without actually having the release clause triggered.

Erik ten Hag is supposedly obsessed about bringing the Swede to Old Trafford. It is understandable considering how big of a disappointment Anthony Martial has been and the fact that Rasmus Hojlund has often picked up an injury and missed games.

Does Erik ten Hag have a say?

As much as Erik ten Hag might want to bring Gyokeres to Old Trafford, we must remember that his own future at the club is not guaranteed following what has been a very poor season at the helm. Does he have a future at the club?

The Red Devils will need to first get their managerial situation out of the picture before moving on to signing players for next season. Should they decide to stick with Ten Hag, then looking at players makes sense but should they decide to twist, they need to identify who they want first.
