Manchester United are looking to sign former Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, following his impressive campaign club for Portuguese club Sporting CP.

Scoring goals has been a massive cause of concern for Erik ten Hag this season with the Red Devils’ only netting 37 goals all season long in the Premier League. To put numbers into perspective, eighteenth-placed Luton Town have scored the same number of goals with a game less played.

Manchester United completed the signing of Rasmus Hojlund for £72million in the summer transfer window, though it took a while before he felt at home at Old Trafford and started banging goals for fun.

Nonetheless, there have been times when the 20-year-old has lacked commendable service in the box, and United don’t have a considerable backup option. With Rasmus Hojlund injured, Erik ten Hag & Co. are forced to play Marcus Rashford in the central role.

Taking into account everything, Manchester United are said to be interested in bringing another striker in the summer to compete and complement Rasmus’ development.

According to a report by The Independent, Manchester United are one of the ‘main contenders’ to secure Napoli striker Victor Osimhen’s services.

A 25-year-old Swede ace playing in Portugal is looked at by the Reds from Manchester as well. Multiple reports in the media are linking Manchester United with Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyökeres.

Sporting signed Viktor from Coventry City for a small fee. However, they are now looking at massive profits if they secure a buyer for the 25-year-old in the summer.

Viktor Gyökeres has been a phenomenon upfront with a goal-scoring tally of 32 complemented by 11 assists this season. There are no surprises that Manchester United alongside other Premier League clubs are looking to lay the red carpet for his signatures.

Signing Viktor Gyökeres would mean creating the best pair of centre-forwards in the Premier League at Old Trafford. It will breed competition and competition will breed excellence.
