Viktor Gyokeres agent holds meeting with all interested clubs; Manchester United on alert
With his agent Hasan Çetinkaya, present at the Sporting-Benfica game in Lisbon, Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres seems more and more likely to switch clubs this summer. The 25-year-old Swedish international moved to the Portuguese giants from Coventry City in the 2023 summer window (after playing there on loan since 2021) and has been one of the most in-form strikers in world football since.
After failing to have an impact at Brighton and Hove Albion from where he moved to various clubs on loan, his time at Coventry eventually earned Gyokeres the move to Sporting where has scored 36 goals and has 15 assists to boot in 42 appearances across all competitions.
Manchester United have continued to show interest in the player, considering the lack of a proper #9 at Newton Heath. Fabrizio Romano via Twitter recently revealed that the player’s agent shall engage in talks with all interested parties soon, nearing the €100m price tag.
Calls for major investment?
While inflation is a real problem to deal with in world football, Sporting surely have the ball in their court when it comes to negotiations. His deal with them lasts until 2028 (Transfermarkt) and clubs would HAVE to agree to a fee they quote if they want to secure the services of Gyokeres.
The meeting between Gyokeres’ agent and interested clubs represents a crucial stage in the striker’s future. Manchester United, along with other suitors, will have the opportunity to present their offers and discuss the possibility of securing Gyokeres’ signature. However, the final decision rests with Sporting, who will determine the outcome of negotiations based on their assessment of Gyokeres’ value to the club. More details on the now over meeting shall most likely be made public information sooner than later.
Speaking of United, they have to pursue a move for the player keeping in mind multiple things. The long-term future of the current manager of the club is uncertain. Whether or not to splurge such a huge amount on a player who previously failed to adjust to the Premier League is also a question.
However, that is not a real doubt considering many players have come back to the Premier League and turned things around in their favour. For example, Mohamed Salah. The only difference is he cost Liverpool way less than €100m.

United’s interest in Gyokeres comes as no surprise, given their need for a reliable number 9. The club has been monitoring Gyokeres closely, recognizing his potential to bolster their attacking options. However, the €100m price tag raises questions about the feasibility of a potential transfer. While the Red Devils should undoubtedly make every effort to secure the services of a quality striker, whether or not Gyokeres is worth €100m is a matter that the club must discuss thoroughly.
