Manchester United are chasing Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres for a possible move in the summer, though despite multiple links with a move away from Portugal, he has played down speculations surrounding his future, insisting he doesn’t take it seriously at the moment.

Following a year at Coventry, Gyokeres moved to the Portuguese capital and has been playing an exceptional campaign with Sporting Lisbon. He has amassed a tally of 36 goals, followed by 14 assists in all competitions this season.

You don’t generally see a talent like Viktor Gyokeres slip out of the scouting system of English football without attracting significant attention. To make up for it, all the big Premier League clubs are chasing his services; Chelsea have expressed interest in his profile for a while, while Arsenal are leading contenders to land him this summer.

Manchester United are keeping tabs on the player as they look to hand summer signing Rasmus Højlund space and competition to aid his development.

According to a recent report in Portuguese media by A Bola, any willing club will need to fork out a €100 million (£85 million) release clause in full, with Sporting Lisbon’s unwillingness to let their star man go.

Beyond PL clubs, the likes of Bayern Munich and Paris-Saint-Germain are also keeping tabs on Viktor Gyokeres.

Viktor Gyökeres spoke to the Swedish press while away on international duty as he was asked about transfer speculations for the upcoming summer:

‘I don’t think much about it now actually, I want to win the league and the cup with Sporting – that’s where I’m putting all my energy and strength.’

While speaking about links to big clubs, he said:

‘It’s a sign that I’ve been performing well, but it’s not something I take too seriously. It’s just speculation, but it’s good and fun to talk about. We’ll see what happens in the summer, I don’t know what will happen. But I really like Sporting and I don’t feel stressed at all for what’s to come.’

In a way, it is good to see him not taking any pressure associated with coming into the limelight. While having that mentality to want to win silverware with the club before thinking about anything else shows the elite mentality the Swede possess.

He says it’s just speculation, but we know a player of his capacity and the clubs he has been linked with suggest much more than that. The 25-year-old has been focused on Sporting CP as of now, but his future, by the looks of it, is away from Portugal, and Manchester United could sort out their striking position for at least the next five to seven years.
