Liverpool ‘confident’ of beating Manchester United to sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount
Premier League rivals Liverpool are ‘confident’ of being able to beat Manchester United to the signing of Chelsea star Mason Mount, according to talkSPORT (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The 24-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Stamford Bridge side after their transfer activity in the previous window. His contract with the Blues expires in the summer of 2024.
Next summer, the Old Trafford side are eyeing the addition of a midfielder. However, the Merseysiders are also preparing for an overhaul in the coming months and are eager to acquire the services of the England international.
Mount made his way through the youth ranks at Chelsea. After some fruitful loan spells away, the 24-year-old was given an opportunity in the Blues’ first team by Frank Lampard in the 2019/20 season.
Since then, the midfielder has been a key player for the Stamford Bridge side. However, in recent weeks, the England international has lost his place in the West London club’s starting lineup.
After bringing the likes of Raheem Sterling and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang to Chelsea last summer, the Blues once again splashed the cash in January. The Stamford Bridge side signed the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Mykhaylo Mudryk and Noni Madueke.
Graham Potter has subsequently given the new arrivals a run in the team. Also, Mount’s underwhelming form has not helped his cause either.
Liverpool, like the West London club, have struggled in the current campaign. In the middle of the park, Jurgen Klopp has not been able to rely on any of the veterans to perform week in, week out.
As for United, the addition of Casemiro and Christina Eriksen in the summer of 2022 has proven wise. The two have put in some impressive displays and have become pivotal to Erik ten Hag’s plans at the Old Trafford side.

However, the Red Devils could evidently do with more quality in the middle of the park. While Mount has not been at his best of late, the 24-year-old has showcased his talent consistently in the past.
