Erik ten Hag reveals Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho “accepts” being substituted
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that Alejandro Garnacho “accepts” the decision of being substituted in matches.
Against Crystal Palace in the Premier League this month, the 18-year-old entered the pitch at the hour mark. However, after Casemiro’s red card, with the team trying to hand on to a one-goal lead, the gaffer took the Argentine off in the final minutes of the match to bring on Harry Maguire, which the youngster did not look pleased about.
Then, in our last fixture against Leeds United, Garnacho started. The forward was presented with two decent opportunities in the first half to equalise but failed to take them.
At the hour mark, with the Old Trafford side two goals down, the Argentine was one of the players replaced, with Ten Hag bringing on Facundo Pellistri and Jadon Sancho. Thankfully, Marcus Rashford and the former Borussia Dortmund star found the back of the net to salvage us a point.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, the Dutch manager is understanding of the 18-year-old being emotional at getting substituted.
“But he accepts decisions and the team is always above everything and I think he knows that. When he is coming off, that emotion, that frustration is not against that, that he’s not accepting it.”
Garnacho has broken into Man United’s starting lineup in the current campaign. Initially, he had found it tough, with Ten Hag opting for other options up front.
However, some of the 18-year-old’s performances have established him in the gaffer’s plans. But the youngster has found it hard in recent weeks.
Rashford has been the Red Devils’ talisman, playing on the left wing. Sancho has also come back into the fold. The 22-year-old has looked lively since his return.

Therefore, Ten Hag has a number of players he can count on to feature up front. While Garnacho has grown leaps and bounds in a short time, his substitutions in recent games have been justified. However, it is good to see that the youngster is passionate about the minutes he gets on the pitch.
